Youth, ages 7-18, sing in our Primary, Junior and Senior choirs. The choristers are offered participation in the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) theory training course. They learn to read music and understand complex musical scores. Vocal technique is taught from breath control to vowel shaping and correct vocal placement for well controlled sounds and simply beautiful singing. Our children & youth choirs sing a diverse repertoire including Anglican choral music, spirituals and modern anthems. Our music is both fun and challenging, and our choristers sing in as many as five different languages during a typical season.
Grace choristers develop musicianship through weekly ensemble practice and performance. Singing the service weekly is an important discipline and helps to build strong ensembles. The choir also sings several concerts each season, bringing great music to our Silver Spring community.
Our Primary, Junior and Senior choirs number over 40 choristers. Older choristers mentor younger ones, and due to our size, many children serve as section leaders and help to manage all of the tasks that keep our ensemble working well. Each chorister is encouraged to serve in a position of leadership within the choir.
